World Cup 2010 Card Game

The World Cup Card Game is based on The World Cup Game using a similar system for deciding the matches but with a shorter playing time. The World Cup Card Game has 64 cards divided into 32 Team cards and 32 Action cards. Each group match is played individually but this takes seconds to resolve, then the KO stages are played in a similar way to the Board Game.

The 1974 World Cup in West Germany and 1978 in Argentina still had 16 teams, as had been the case since 1954. However, the significant change in these two tournaments was the introduction of a secondary group phase. Each winner and runner-up progressed into one of two groups and from there, the winners of each group played in the final and the runners-up played for 3rd place.

Spain 1982 was a unique tournament. The number of teams was increased to 24, divided into 6 groups of 4. Each winner and runner-up progressed to a secondary group stage divided into 4 groups of 3 teams. The winners of each of these groups then played the Semi-Finals.

USA 1994 was essentially the same as 1986 and 1990 except the FIFA faux pas which allowed two teams from the same group to meet again in the Semi-Finals. This happened to Brazil and Sweden!

World Cup Football Board Game Expansion 5: 1954, 1970 and 1998

Switzerland 1954 was unique. There were 16 teams, 4 groups of 4, but two of the teams in each group were 'seeded' and didn't play each other. Furthermore FIFA decided that a 'free draw' was to be used to determine opponents in the KO stages.

Mexico 1970 was exactly the same format as 1962 and 1966.

France 1998 was the first World Cup to have 32 teams and was essentially the same as 2002 and 2006 except for some minor changes to the progression from the group stages.
